Biography

Beni is a 28-year-old Swiss painter who first trained in international relations. After his studies and a first professional experience, he returned to his first love: drawing and painting. What draws him is the chance to create his own universe and to marvel at what makes up his everyday life. This passion never left him, even while he worked in another field: painting remained his escape.

Artistic approach

Beni explores the floral world, which rekindles the wonder of the child we keep inside us. His inspiration draws on people, architecture and society, through what they are made of: childhood, dreams, social bonds. He sees society as fragile, because it is constantly shifting and unstable, shaken by doubt and global confrontations, to the point of losing sight of the human. His work therefore questions the carefreeness of childhood: can it still find its place in a world that wavers like this?

He paints in oil on canvas, with a touch of acrylic, and gives a central place to light and shadow, which give flowers, faces and buildings their depth and presence. He works in series, guided by the world of photography, urban colours and nature, and now and then allows himself works outside a series. Poetry, especially that of Paul Éluard, enriches his eye, as do human beings and beauty, which he seeks from every angle. In photography, he admires Saul Leiter, William Eggleston and Joel Meyerowitz for the way they capture the moment, that fleeting instant when light and colour make everyday life singular.

His academic background in international relations gave him a vision of the world that runs through his artistic eye. He moves between Geneva, Paris and New York. Beni has moved around a lot in his young life: places change, but emotions remain. A few elements tie him to this continuity, flowers, faces, buildings, so many anchor points of memory. Today he seeks to set out for new places, to find new inspiration there and help his art evolve.
